Year of the Giraffe

We’re fortunate to get to frequently visit The Living Desert in Palm Desert, and feeding the giraffes is one of my favorite experiences there.

Originally though, in this painting, how awkward the giraffe’s head and neck looked all alone on the canvas! When I decided to add an almost trompe-l’oeil picture frame, I think I solved the composition problem and made the painting—and the giraffe—more interesting.
