Olive
Oil and acrylic on canvas, 2019
36 x 18 inches
Aside from being a portrait, “Olive” was an experiment in painting in oils on a shiny, metallic gold, acrylic background. That presented some challenges.
The gold surface was slick, and the oils seemed to slide around rather than adhere. Getting the effect I wanted was possible, but it took patience.
On the other hand, I was pleased with the way her skin tones were sometimes translucent and allowed the gold to show through.
